3 Kings 03:53
3 Kings I went up to the first floor The first floor was quite a drop They made me be things I was not So I went up to the next floor And I was told I was on top Of all the things I am this thing I am not She don't hold that card anymore Even if I was to say to you Even if I share the wealth Even if I was with someone else Would it be the first? Would it be the last? I believe in letting nothing pass It's the hardest trick but try to trust yourself She don't hold that card anymore I'm going back to the Bay Road area And I am taking out my camera I take a picture of everything that I see I said "I live my life in emergencies I live my life in emergency I live my life in emergency" But I live my life She don't hold that card anymore (Some people live like this)

Backyard 03:02
Backyard In my mind you were a doll I built a house above your head Woke up inches from the ground Then I knew I was going down In my basement is a box Filled with books that have your name On the bottom was a ring Would you believe it didn't mean a thing? Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you And if you wait you'll see that that will go down too You're perfect: you played my favorite song And showed me where I was going wrong But inside dinner is getting cold And I ate the greatest story ever told Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you But if you wait you'll see that that will go down too Lying in my backyard I feel the sun beating down on me And you - you got nothing that I can't see In my mind you were a doll I built a house above your head I woke up inches from the ground Then I knew that I was going down Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you But if you wait you'll see that that will go down too Lying in my backyard I feel the sun beating down on me And you - you got nothing that I can't see

Drill Sergeant CITGO - CITGO : blinking light in her heart A heart full of ammo she saved up from the start A drill sergeant of the soul - she gets finally used In street after street she knows good things they come in two by twos Don't leave me up in the air Please pretend there's something there Heard about you - I believe that it's true One lesson I learned about you One lesson that grew and grew and grew Don't leave me up in the air Please pretend there's something there Caught you painting this old picture of me But I'm different - it doesn't look like me Am I crazy? Did I hear you say...? C - I - T - G - O : blinking light in her head The drill sergeant of the soul Met the soldier made of lead Don't leave me up in the air Please pretend there's something there Don't leave me up in the air Please pretend there's something there

First 03:05
First I heard a story about what you're up to now And it stuck with me. It reminded me of how We made our choices and wound just ignoring each others' voices I drifted away And I saw a picture: the gray and rainy beach North Carolina - that time the camera said it all You were walking away with your best friend by your side And there's no one beside her And I snapped away First you were my best friend First you were my very best friend I sent you a picture of the gray and rainy beach North Carolina - I'm watching the waves go up and down You were walking away with your best friend by your side And there's no one beside her I'm snapping away At first you were my best friend First you were my very best friend I remember the walls going up going down And when little girls start to swim they drown And when little boys start to smile they just frown I remember the waves going up going down And when little boys start to swim they drown And when little girls start to smile they just frown I believe - I believe - I believe

Walk Around the Block Go take your walk around the block Try to put yourself in someone else Then you can blame them for Just what you lack Go ahead and fill the closet Fill it full of bricks You can burn ten books with just one match Then you can blame them all for Just what you lack Tell me when are you coming back? Tell me when are you coming back? Tell me when are you coming back to the one who needs you? She just lay around after I left She figured out just how - how many were her friends Now I blame her for Just what I lack Tell me when are you coming back? Tell me when are you coming back? Tell me when are you coming back to the one who needs you? Please don't ever go back to the one who needs you

Greener 02:43
Greener We're in this house - I'm in this fantasy There's only one for me One turned to three Keep playing keep away - the cat won't stay There's nothing bothering me We while away and while we while away A message came today - it had nothing to say And green grows everything - green grows the stories Growing up inside your mind Stop keeping time Keep playing keep away - why don't you stay? There's someone waiting for me We while away and while we while away A message came today - it had nothing to say And green was the color of my true love lies Don't push me - don't pull me aside Green grows everything... We're in this house - I'm in this fantasy There's only one for me One turned to three And I'm feeling better now (and redder now) There's no one greener than me We while away and while we while away A message came today - it had nothing to say And green was the color of my true love lies Don't push me - don't pull me aside Green was the color of my true love lies Don't push me - don't pull me aside I'm greener I am greener

Visionary 02:58
Visionary She put on her best dress Will she wear it at forty? She thinks about her old friends She comes down to the party She says I tell stories And I'm a visionary Visionary let me down Down from on top of the world Visionary let me down I was asked if I talked to her I'm afraid I had the chance And all she wanted to give to me Was a California glance She says things have changed And they will change again Visionary let me down Down from on top of the world Visionary let me down Beneath her best dress Beneath her vision I lack just a little hart And I lack a mission - she rang! Once again when she came to the end The verses start coming true In quatrain after quatrain Of no one else but you I too tell stories And I'm a visionary Visionary let me down I live on top of the world Visionary let me down Down from on top of the world

Jennifer Cup 02:30
Jennifer Cup My Jennifer cup, I keep her filled up She came so cheap but she sticks her nose up The next thing you know she's all over your bed I did my best to just pass her test My Jennifer cup, I can't put her down She kicked my crown all over my town And then she left just as quick she'd come She filled up your memory with all the shit that she said She said you better enjoy your life My Jennifer cup, I keep her filled up She came so cheap but she sticks her nose up And then she left just as quick she'd come But I did my best to just pass her test She said you better enjoy your life You better enjoy your life You better enjoy your life while you've got time - time - time Yes you better enjoy your life while you've got time Time.

Oldsmobile 02:31
Oldsmobile I built this house from zero I built it up from scratch I put it up on a firm foundation I couldn't keep it when I packed I was afraid when I first saw you I didn't know what I'm supposed to do Let me fix your TV set for you Let me know when the program's through I turn up the music when I hear you coming It's been so long - no, it's been too long The radio's off and the stereo's humming I thought that song would go on and on and on I built this house from zero I could not keep it when I packed Standing up on my firm foundation But in my mind I am going back I turn up the music when I hear you coming It's been so long - no, it's been too long The radio's off and the stereo is humming I thought that song would go on and on and on I know it's time.

The Rage 03:49
The Rage On a freeway, in a parking lot In my driveway, my dead end Make it end - make the whole thing end Little boys who play Prince Charming Get it in the end Make it end - make the whole thing end But make it end like something strange Make it end like something special But make it over in my mind forever I see myself a different person Moved on to a better life I said make it end - make the whole thing end The furniture it moved around some Moved right back again I said make it end - make the whole thing end But make it end like something strange Make it end like something special But make it over in my mind forever I'm telling you this small boy has got a lot together I promise you this small boy will have a lot to offer Talk about "freedom" - freedom from each other and Free of fear of having to call it the end Make the whole thing end I see myself - my same old self Wrapped up in my same old bed I said make it end - make the whole thing end But make it end like something strange Make it end like something special But make it over in my mind forever Make it end like something strange Make it end like something special Make it over in my mind forever

Bookmark 03:10
Bookmark When she wrote the words she was finishing college She took such a long time Her parents were worried about what she was up to I thought that she seemed fine Why don't they just leave you alone? And let's see what you become She tore out the page And she lost the page number She said she'd never want it back And she said, "Pardon me please this once A very tired image I think I just jumped the track And I don't want to go back from here No I don't want to run out of fear Why don't they just leave me alone? Let's see what I become" Three years later I gave her a bookmark I didn't mean it as a joke But that's how she took it She didn't even get it She put it away and she spoke: "Are you really having fun these days? And do you still love guitars?" I feel alright to me these days I feel alright to me these days And I feel alright to me I feel alright to me

Natural Boy 03:12
Natural Boy Snow falls at 33 degrees and the cars start to go real slow I went down into the street and I slipped on the bottom stair Your apartment and your coat, both fit you very well Not enough room to lose your mind but enough to lose yourself I find Every time That what you want You better get it yourself It's high time Don't waste my time That's not the way it goes And it's the hardest way To feel this way And everybody's getting in my way I was raised, I did not climb But at the time I was happy Please let's not go to the roof, there's only trouble up there She always minimized the things for which I care I find Every time That what you want You better get it yourself It's high time Don't waste my time That's not the way it goes And it's the hardest way To feel this way And everybody's getting in my way I was raised, I did not climb But at the time I was happy It's the natural way To feel that way And everybody's getting in my way I was raised, I did not climb But at the time I was happy Snow falls at 33 degrees and everyone slows down Don't let it get you down: it's natural

Salena 02:31
Salena Salena calls me up, I'm one of her friends She whips off letters that never seem to end Believe me, you say it's bad but you've got it so good You know I'd follow you if I could But you're always on the inside Everyone else can just stay outside They're always after what you want to hide Salena, call me back when you get it right And don't sing me "whatever will get you through the night" You're just one thing on my mind Do you still love California? Or are you just wasting your time? You know that if you ask me, I feel fine But you're always on the inside Everyone else can just stay outside I was only asking but you always want to hide You're just one thing on my mind Do you still love California? Or are you just wasting your time? You know that if you ask me, I feel fine

Her World 03:23
Her World I see what you mean now shut off the ignition This house is my own for a while And when they come back just remember ambition I'm all alone for a while Believe her when she says that she loves this song It leaves her with him in her mind Someday may we be just left to ourselves Someday may her world be mine We pack up our bags and we fly off together We never had any doubts And when we look back we see that no time was wasted We never had any doubts Believe her when she says that she loves this song It leaves her with him in her mind Someday may we be just left to ourselves Someday may her world be mine She's all mine... she's all mine...

Separation 03:41
Separation Oh no don't change your mind I wanna hear about it Just one drop from those mahogany eyes And the world stops to see To hear about it Just trying to live for the day Imminent separation "You've got to roll with the punches," I say And it's a surprise, it's a surprise My inspiration: separation It's been a year since you saved me from that boring border town Now separation... now separation this year Well excuse me for being alive Am I just transportation? I'll just shut up, look forward and drive It's temporary... temporary: my alienation It's been a year since you saved me from that boring border town Now separation... now separation this year

Box of Pictures A cat on grass, a chance is passed I hear the garbage truck roll past Police cars come - it's 6:00am When you got back it was only 10 We lit the fire up the trail And sold it all in a big tag sale The wood is gone (let's steal some more) I still hear someone at the door Some colors will turn to gray My box of pictures will never fade away I'm hearing music through the walls And smashing bottles in the hall The kitchen light is glowing green You asked me to show you where I've been Some colors will turn to gray My box of pictures will never fade away My Ruby Ranch, I remember you And all the things we put you through Forgive me if I turn around But you help me when I'm going down Some colors will turn to gray My box of pictures will never fade away I see faces and places in my mind My box of pictures will keep them over time So let's give thanks for the good times and the bad My box of pictures holds everything I had (goodnight)

about

The Vestrymen Amherst, Massachusetts

Beginning in 1986 in Amherst, MA, The Vestrymen brought a folkier, psychedelic hue to the "Western Mass" sound forged by Dinosaur Jr, Buffalo Tom, etc.

Starting out with local cassette releases, the band found a national audience for their brand of jangle pop on two independent releases: THE VESTRYMEN in 1990 and RUBY RANCH in 1993. After much touring and hi jinx, the group disbanded in 1994.
