lyrics

Backyard

In my mind you were a doll
I built a house above your head
Woke up inches from the ground
Then I knew I was going down

In my basement is a box
Filled with books that have your name
On the bottom was a ring
Would you believe it didn't mean a thing?

Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you
And if you wait you'll see that that will go down too

You're perfect: you played my favorite song
And showed me where I was going wrong
But inside dinner is getting cold
And I ate the greatest story ever told

Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you
But if you wait you'll see that that will go down too
Lying in my backyard I feel the sun beating down on me
And you - you got nothing that I can't see

In my mind you were a doll
I built a house above your head
I woke up inches from the ground
Then I knew that I was going down

Sitting in my backyard I see the sun beat down on you
But if you wait you'll see that that will go down too
Lying in my backyard I feel the sun beating down on me
And you - you got nothing that I can't see

about

The Vestrymen Amherst, Massachusetts

Beginning in 1986 in Amherst, MA, The Vestrymen brought a folkier, psychedelic hue to the "Western Mass" sound forged by Dinosaur Jr, Buffalo Tom, etc.

Starting out with local cassette releases, the band found a national audience for their brand of jangle pop on two independent releases: THE VESTRYMEN in 1990 and RUBY RANCH in 1993. After much touring and hi jinx, the group disbanded in 1994.
